Got Wood?

Madison County Wood Wokers Guild

The Madison County Woodworkers guild is a small but elite group of woodworking snobs making only the finest sawdust. Our philosophy is work smart, not hard, but that is only a philosophy. David Mack has suggested we make a reality show out of our weekly meetings. I think it would make a nice comedy (of errors). Certainly it would require a PG-13 rating.

The chapter was founded in 2001 by Rick Martindale and David Mack. We moved to our current location following the completion of our new state-of-the-art facilities in the winter of 2003.

Some of the more detailed projects have taken quite a bit of time. The four drawer chest for instance took an entire calendar year. We enjoyed spending several weeks performing a few rather trival tasks. Live and learn.

In an attempt to continue to learn, we strive to add new details to each new project. Examples are the mitered spline on the nightstand, the shaped feet of the 4 drawer chest, dovetailed drawers, and the hexagonal base of the pedestal table. For me, it all started with a 1/4" round over bit.

The average session is less than three hours. We typically meet once a week, but rarely four times in a month. The summer and winter months are less brutal now that we have heating and a/c.
