Camp Oven - Version 3.0
This is the third effort at a camp oven. This was my first attempt. And you know I couldn't start a new project without throwing in a little PVC.
The design includes a grill grate, aluminium flashing, #10 screws, PVC, and a Coleman propane burner. The thin wire seen above the shell is the handle. This wire does not get hot so it is easy to pick up the shell even when the oven is at 500 F.
Side View - The grill grate is roughly 14 inches above the ground.
Place the pan on the grill and cover. Bake at 400 for 20 minutes.
Notice the two thermometers. The temperature differential is definitely not linear. Here you see about 200F on the bottom on maybe 275F on the top. This is the lowest temperature setting.
If you turn the burner up one notch the temp moves to 375/450F.
Here it is with the dial turned all the way up to 11. The dials read 475F/550F. At what temperature does aluminium melt?
When the bottom thermometer reads 450F, the temperature at the grill level is 300F.
I have already used the oven to bake biscuits, muffins, samosas, and a two layer chocolate cake. So good so far.
